Ready to be a Christ Follower? Follow these steps…
Step 1: Admit you’re a sinner
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” ~Romans 3:23
We know that, because of sin, we are destined to die. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) We can’t rid ourselves of our sin, but we can ask forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9) But even that is not enough.
Step 2: Realize you need to be saved
“Just as man is destined to die once and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people. And He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.” ~Hebrews 9:27-28
The reason it states “many” and not “all” people is because it only applies to those who have accepted the gift of eternal life. It is available to all of us, but we must choose to accept it. We must choose to follow Jesus. That is the only way to Heaven – through our belief in Him. “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.”” (John 14:6)
Step 3: Accept Jesus’ gift
So here’s what you need to do: “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9) If you haven’t done this, if you haven’t accepted God’s gift of eternal life, pray to God – accept it. If you need help, here’s a sample prayer:
God, I know I’m a sinner. Please forgive my sins and save me from eternal separation from you. I believe you sent your son, Jesus, to die on the cross and rise again for my sins. I accept your gift of eternal salvation and invite Jesus to live in my heart. Please fill me with the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
